De Mond Huis
From R12,500 Per Night
""Mondhuis" was originally built by Hendrik Cloete around the 1790's as a holiday home. This was long before Hermanuspietersfonteln, (now Hermanus) existed as a fishing village. The building's precise chosen location on the eastern boundary of what was then a farm, was probably selected because of a natural fresh water spring about 35 meters from the house. The fresh water spring would have provided the household with an unlimited and proximate supply of fresh water.
Cloete called the farm his "Luusplaas" or Pleasure Estate and enjoyed his holidays here. He would spend about three months of the year on his Luusplaas hunting and fishing, while his cattle. horses and oxen benefited from the abundant grazing available on the farm."
""Mondhuis", now “De Mond Huis”; remained in the Cloete family until 1893 when it was finally sold. The house has changed hands a number of times over the last century, and changes have of course been made; more latterly under the strict rules of the Heritage Committee. The current owner’s have most recently undertaken a significant project to upgrade this beautiful heritage house, sensitively remodeling the interior layout to make a more modern use of the space; using advanced technology to ensure safety under the thatched roof, while keeping the authentic feel of this historical house.
